Psychiatrist in Jaipur for patients from Uttar Pradesh
Agra and Mathura lie on the highway and railway that run east from Jaipur, so a consultation can often fit into one long day. Families from western Uttar Pradesh come to Dr. Surabhi Mathur for a second opinion, for care away from their own town, or because they have relatives in Jaipur.

Why people travel
When the journey to Jaipur makes sense
Agra has one of north India’s oldest government mental health institutes, so families here are not short of options. Those who choose Jaipur usually want a fresh opinion on treatment that has not helped, a private consultation away from people they know, or a place where family can support them.
A second opinion
When treatment has not helped, or a diagnosis does not seem right, a fresh look at the whole history can clear things up.
Addiction
Alcohol and drug problems, often with a family that would rather seek help away from home.

Getting to Jaipur and where to stay
By road
The Jaipur-Agra highway (NH-21) runs from Agra through Bharatpur and Dausa to the east of Jaipur. From Mathura, take the road to Bharatpur and join the same highway. The highway part is straightforward; allow extra time at the end to cross Jaipur to Sodala and Nirman Nagar, on the western side of the city.
By train and air
Trains from Agra Fort reach Jaipur Junction in about four to five hours. From Mathura the journey usually takes about five to six hours, on one of the direct trains or with a change at Bharatpur. Check the current timetable, because direct services do not run at every hour.
Where to stay
Hotels and guest houses are easy to find around Jaipur Junction and Sindhi Camp, a short ride from the clinic. If your appointment is at Narayana Hospital, or someone is admitted there, it is easier to stay in the Pratap Nagar and Tonk Road area. Mention it when you book, and the team can tell you which side of the city to stay on.

How a first visit and follow-ups are planned
01
Before you set out
Call or WhatsApp to book, and confirm your slot the day before. Choose a time that leaves room for the journey both ways; for a long trip, a midday appointment or a night in Jaipur takes the pressure off.
02
What to bring
Every earlier prescription, the strips or boxes of current medicines, test reports and any hospital discharge summary, with a short written note of when the problem began and what has been tried.
03
Who should come
The patient and one or two family members who know the history. If the person who needs help refuses to come, family members can come first to talk through how to approach them.
04
After the first visit
Follow-ups are closer together at first, then spaced several weeks apart once treatment is settled, and planned around your travel. Dr. Mathur explains what to watch for in between and when to call.
If hospital admission is needed
Sometimes care is safest in hospital for a while: a severe depression with thoughts of self-harm, mania or psychosis, alcohol withdrawal that needs medical supervision, or someone who has stopped eating and drinking. Dr. Mathur is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Narayana Hospital in Pratap Nagar, Jaipur, so if admission is needed it can be arranged there and care continues under the same psychiatrist. For families from Uttar Pradesh, it helps if one relative can stay in Jaipur during the admission.
Questions, answered
Questions from families in Uttar Pradesh
Still unsure about something? Our team is happy to help.
Call 72404-45656Can we come from Agra or Mathura and go back the same day?
It is possible but it makes a long day, at about three and a half to four and a half hours each way by road. Set out early and ask for a midday appointment, or stay one night in Jaipur if the person who is unwell tires easily.
Why travel to Jaipur if Agra has a mental health institute?
You may not need to. Agra has established government services, and if you are getting good care there, it makes sense to stay with it. Some families choose Jaipur for a second opinion, for more privacy, or because they have relatives here.
What if the person who needs help refuses to come?
Family members can come first, without the patient, to describe what is happening and talk through how to approach them. Do not give medicines secretly or force the person; in an emergency, call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department.
How do we book from another state?
Call 72404-45656, send a WhatsApp message, or use the form on the Contact page, and say where you are travelling from, so that the team can suggest a time that suits your journey.
